Although I always heard about weathering with you and Your name and its OSTs but never thought they were worth watching but after watching Suzume no Tojimari, I started watching all Makoto Shinkai's works on my projector because I didn't have anything else to watch. I think his works all have good quality animation and artstry but I don't think it is no where as good as ghibli's work because the animation look computer graphic in lot of places which makes it look like not much hard work is put into it. The plot and storyline and how animation transitions is much like drama than a theatrical movie Lot of the scene are in modern suburban area so he creates familiar scenes we can relate to but lacks sense of fantasy and other worldness we all come to seek in animation because what he portrays is just everyday life The movie looks like it is adapted straight out of manga book. Yes that is how manga and cartoonish it is His works seem to carry theme of protagonists rescuing Japan from natural disasters which are common in Japan such as floods and earthquakes. I'm yet to find out what Your Name is about.. About the Tenki no Ko, it is about a 15 yo girl who is bewitched with an ability to clear up Tokyo sky which in this context never stops raining and a 17 yo boy who is looking for a job. The boy finds work at the girl's father's printing firm and while running errands he meets the girl when she was about to be forced into a brothel by a grown man. He saves her with his gun and they together run away and they form strong acquaintance from this event. Later on boy finds out about the girls supernatural ability and comes up with a business proposal to sell her power to bring sunshine out of rain to those who need a clear sky in Tokyo for important events. The business goes well and the girl quickly become renowned as Sunshine girl but just when the boy falls in love and is about to propose to the girl to spend life together, he finds out about the girls destiny and the downside of her ability that everytime the girl prays to clear up the sky for people she slowly disappears and how that she has to eventually offered up as sacrifice to save Tokyo from drowning from too much rain. Just when he finally finds out about the girl's "truth" she has already left him. The boy tries to find her again and visits the realm of Kami to release her from being offered up as sacrifice and brings her back to the human world. In the process the boy gets unto trouble by using firearm and be chased by police. He nevertheless strive to get to the place to meet the girl again and succeed. He later on graduates from high school and with that his probation period ends and finally have courage to face the girl again and the story ends with them meeting again after 2 years

This was my first movie to watch from Makoto Shinkai and would not hate to watch his other works too as people are saying they are better than this one. I don't think this movie was terrible as many people who gave 1 star think. The visuals was almost perfect especially the watercolour background had some ghibli vibe but some characters could have been designed better like the chair and cat. Aside from visual movie was confusing in its storyline Firstly why did animator have to choose ugly looking chair over other objects to turn male lead Souta when he was cursed? Also why did he get cursed by the cat in the first place? If the cat had power to curse people into becoming a chair how can it die so easily in the end? Did cat try to run away and dodge its duty as keystone that keeps the worm gate closed because it simply wanted to become Suzume's pet cat? Did it turn Souta into a chair because Suzume loved him more and was simply jealous? Did the cat intended Soto to become keystone in his place when he first cursed him into a chair? In the first half of the movie I thought the cat was the antagonist because he turned Souta into a chair and seemed like it was triggering the worm gates to keep opening to destroy people with earthquake but then towards the end he suddenly turned it into a good character and I was made to feel bad and cry when he returned being a keystone There is more questions than answers from watching this movie and some scenes were overly dramatic and emotional for nothing but I get that because Japanese people are very emotionally sensitive From dialogues and storyline I felt bad about victims of earthquake disasters and could empathise with them which I think is part of reason why this anime is made
