I couldn’t click with the character, but really I see it’s the author I don’t click with. So much of this book is far fetched, and outside the realms of reality (the murders and lack of any investigation putting together all the pieces) yet what’s very evident is the clear contempt the writer has for the less than middle class of society. Perhaps contempt is harsh, however being of working class upbringing myself, I recognise in the writing the feeling people have tried to put on me my whole adult life: a feeling of worthlessness/meaningless of life associated with non-London centric, working class, non users of the word banal (which in my opinion was overused in this book).
