Probably the worst Disney Remake of all time. The 5 star movie reviews are practically all lies. I thought this one would be a more realistic, authentic, and powerful movie, but it’s just horrible. There’s little to no development in the movie for the characters and the characters themselves were bland! Disney said that they were going to make this movie more realistic, but it honestly makes it even stupider. How is a Hawk Witch going to make the movie more realistic? The Witch doesn’t even add anything, just another “We’re not so different,” troupe and dies. The Witch sacrificing herself at the end is so forced as well. The movie could’ve done without her. I’m not hating because it doesn’t have the Cricket, Mushu, Li Shang, the Grandmother, and Mulan’s friends, it’s just so bad. The scenes with the matchmaker is just... ugh. Some random spider comes, makes the Matchmaker flip out, and Mulan balances all the tea cups and pot with chopsticks on her hands and feet. Yet again, HOW IS THIS MORE REALISTIC? They also gave Mulan Chi powers, so instead of her overcoming her weaknesses and becoming stronger at the military call, she’s just some over powered Mary Sue. I loved the original animated movie, probably my favorite of all time, but this? This is the most disgraceful Mulan rendering I’ve ever seen. The original animated Mulan movie gave me the courage and hope as an Asian kid, she made me feel powerful and recognized as a human being and not gross — but if this is the Asian representation we’re getting— I’d like to very rudely decline. Also, the graphics and animations weren’t good. The Phoenix that follows Mulan all over the place looks like a paper kite, (also doesn’t add anything to the story whatsoever!)
