nice writing at times but it did feel like chick lit and as another reviewer pointed out , words of harder vocabulary should’ve been used and the tone should have be more serious to really emphasise what Lily went through. Sometimes I felt annoyed bc the language seemed really juvenile and immature for a book that deals with such heavy topics. Explicit scenes are okay I guess but I feel like Lily’s intelligence wasn’t highlighted enough. I know she was deeply in love and even blinded by it but i think if this wasn’t written in a chick lit style and with more poise and care, dare I say it could even be a classic. At moments I felt like slapping Lily for giving Ryle so many chances and Alyssa truly is a gem of a person , a friend everyone shld have. However I think after finding out what happened to Lily at Ryle’s hands, she should have changed her daughters name at least (Rylee). The maturity in writing is scattered and i feel really annoyed by Lily even though you’re supposed to sympathise with her. The maturity juxtaposed against the poor choice of words make for a frustrating read overall. The book does make your eyes prick occasionally (??) and i found it boring until after the 100th page but ultimately there are many other better novels than this. I really don’t like that abuse is being talked about in such a nonchalant way and you just can’t take any of the characters seriously. Even lilys fifteen year old self sounds more mature than her adult self. Cannot believe people like this book. Disappointed.
