When I was a little kid, in grammar school my old grandfather had a large Bible, with large print, which was the Geneva version. I lived with my grandparents during summer vacations because my mother could not afford a babysitter on her salary ($5 dollars for six days a week). My grandfather read the Bible daily to me as I sat on the floor by his side … sometimes for hours. As I recall, the Geneva version was different than the King James' version which came on the scene some time later. I had no idea that the Geneva Bible had been banned. For many, many years I didn't wonder whatever happened to the Geneva version. It was when I was in my late sixties or early seventies that recalled the Bible that my grandfather had and was unable to recall the name at first. It was a while before I was able to pull up the name after researching into my memory bank. Finally, I recalled that my childhood friend, Geneva Holloway, had the same name. Then, wallah, the picture of that Bible popped into my mind and I jumped on my computer to look it up … and problem solved. However, it was just a couple hours ago, I learned that the Geneva version had been banned by old King James. I am going to order the old Geneva version in a few minutes to see why King James didn't like it.
