I know this musical word for word having performed it many times as a member of the pit orchestra. The music is incredibly special to me. I love the 2021’s version of “America” which they took to the streets and the dancing/choreography is marvelous here as it is during the mambo number. Otherwise, I found it difficult to connect with the cast, especially the two leads. I’m often a very harsh critic of remakes of movies that I love, and this was no exception. I’m going to mentally insert this one’s take on “America” into the ‘61 movie and call it good. But actors today just don’t reach out and grab me like they used to, and I seriously missed the ‘61 cast.
