This book had me hooked immediately and never let me go. What a wild ride. The writing is confident in its poetic simplicity. People who have been broke in a rich neighborhood with wealthy friends (or people who have had a messy phase of their life) can definitely relate to Alex. The stakes couldn’t be higher, but she must continue to act as if nothing is wrong. In the opening she nearly drowns in the ocean, but in a way, she never got out, constantly fighting to keep her head above water.
