Following the deaths of her parents towards whom the narrator harbours mixed emotions, the book details the internal life of the unnamed protagonist. She is both cunning and vain, understanding that her beauty and inherited wealth are her achilles heel. Visited only by the status seeking, eager to please Reva, the reader wallows with the narrator as the book explores dark comedy, grief, and loss. This is my favourite book that I have ever read - a rare portrayal of women's aggression.
