As a heavy WWII history buff, this book (excuse the phrase) blew me out of the water. It read like a novel since the author went to great effort to make the story about individuals as well as the overall importance of the early years of WWII in the Pacific. I knew quite a bit about these war years, but I know a LOT more, since I now have context from both the U.S. and Japanese preparations now, as well as how the battles (Pearl Harbor, Coral Sea, Midway) played out. I couldn't be more impressed with this book.

Adds to one's knowledge and appreciation of the amazing songs and the California culture of the 60s and early 70s. Gave me a much better appreciation of how great bands making great songs and the resulting impact those songs had on OTHER great bands, e.g "Pet Sounds" inspiring "Sgt Pepper". A MUST view for any pop music enthusiast.
