Let me preface this review with saying I am a Disney freak. I love everything Disney and I usually see Disney with rose colored glasses. I had high hopes for this movie. I actually liked the first part of it. I love movies that allow kids to process their emotions. But making the mother the villain at the end and forcing her to learn a lesson of not allowing her 13 year old daughter to go to a stadium concert alone with her 3 13 year old friends??? We should not be teaching our children that their parents are bad guys that need a lesson. We also should not be teaching our 13 year olds that is acceptable to attend stadium concerts alone if their parents choose against it out of complete safety against rapists and evil people that we know exist. I mean a man was just sentenced to 15 years in prison due to inappropriately and sexually touching girls in Magic Kingdom (one of the safest places in my opinion). If that's what you can find in a safe place, what could our kids find in a concert stadium? Also, the 13 year old twerks against her mom when they are both pandas?? Was that supposed to be funny? Being a 13 year old was about innocently kissing boys (at the most) for many of us. But now a Disney movie for kids shows a 13 year old twerking and the 13 year old tells her mom to deal with it because that is what being 13 is about?? I don't want to raise my 13 year old with such little self esteem. Confidence is not that. VERY disappointed with the undertones of this movie. Sometimes we need to teach our parents or grandparents things, but we could have conveyed this meaning in so many other ways than how this film did. Like Encanto, for example. Encanto taught the grandmother a lesson and they had a falling out but it was not disrespectful or teaching our children that these things are ok. Others may disagree but many people I have talked to about the film thinks they could have taught these lessons in much more appropriate ways. Hopefully the next Disney movie is another hit like Encanto or Luca (LOVE THOSE MOVIES!!)
