The movie spent too much time recapping TopGun 1986. It also recited several lines from the original movie instead of making it’s own iconic lines. It was like a soap opera the first half of the movie. In other words “let’s get to it already”. I judge a movie by how many times I’m tempted to check what time it is. I was tempted several times to check the time on the first half this movie. The movie did pick up in the second half once they quit trying to imitate the 1986 TopGun. One last thing. Seems someone was trying to stay politically correct by not naming an adversary country. The original TopGun was so good maybe the bar was just too high to achieve. I just expected better.
