A very thorough and complete work of art. I didn’t really take the art form of an album seriously until Phobia crossed my path. It never loses its energy and the themes are consistent throughout, which is a bland way of validating the 99% rating. Phobia’s vibe maintains the potency of a vampiric romance beveled with the realism of abstract aspects of religion. Breaking Ben manages to redirect the ontological experience of religion towards the audience building this intimacy that feels unprecedented. Themes of desolation, self harm, hate, love remain removed of a corporal cause casting a wider net of relevance. Ultimately it’s the perfect spell to get into a fall mood when the weather is still hot and the vestiges of fall have not made themselves readily apparent.
