Cabrini is a beautifully acted story of the Italian nun who came to America and defied powerful men and daunting odds to build orphanages, hospitals and schools to serve destitute immigrants — first in New York City, then around the world. The movie portrays Mother Cabrini, who didn’t seem to understand the words “no” or “can’t,” as determined and devoted, but fails to show that she was inspired and motivated by the teachings of Jesus Christ and emboldened and empowered by the Holy Spirit. If you can get past the fact that a film about the devout and holy woman who became America’s first saint never portrays her in prayer or mentions the Son of God, then Cabrini makes for engaging entertainment.
