PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW. TO THOSE WHO'VE SEEN MANY NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT THIS FILM, I ENCOURAGE YOU TO READ IT AND MAKE A DECISION ON IF YOU'D LIKE TO WATCH THE MOVIE AFTER. This is going to be quite a lengthy review, just letting you know. I've seen public reviews on youtube, I've read reviews on here, and I've read reviews on India Times and other websites. The commonality between all of these negative reviews is one thing: overhype. We know what overhype means- people came into the movie with high expectations and those expectations weren't met. With Nelson's (the director) very popular and loved movie Doctor, people came with high expectations. His comedy in the movie Doctor, amongst other things that were complimented, and having Vijay as the main character made people excited for Beast. Now people are writing these negative reviews as a product of this movie not reaching their desired expectations. I watched the movie after seeing these reviews and no, it is not has bad as people are are making it out to be. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and would go for a second time. People making these reviews fail to realize that the movie is meant to be comical and that the scenes are meant to be over the top. The story IS about a brilliant spy, which implies that he will be unstoppable. Nelson did an amazing job portraying this with AMAZING fight scenes (in my opinion they were amazing). People claim that some scenes are illogical but in Indian movies, when are fights scenes truly accurate. In most movies, the hero is able to fight 10 guys all at once with only a few scratches. Or, even after he gets badly beaten, is able to still win the fight. Therefore, I feel like talking about the logistical aspects of the movie is a little unfair. Not only that, THE MOVIE IS MEANT TO SHOW HOW VIJAY IS AN AMAZING AGENT/SPY HENCE THE TITLE "BEAST", SO OBVIOUSLY HE IS GOING TO DO ALL THESE "DRAMATIC" AND "OVER THE TOP" SCENES BECAUSE IT SHOWS THAT HE IS TRULY A BEAST. THE "MEANER, LEANER, STRONGER" WORDS ALSO SHOW THAT HE IS BETTER THAN THE VILLAIN SO I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE DO NOT GET WHY VIJAY SEEMS UNSTOPPABLE. People are also saying how the comedy during this dark time of a mall being hijacked by terrorists is inappropriate. This movie is a comedy/thriller. Nelson is popular for comical movies and dark comedy. This movie is just that. Moreover, Nelson did do what he aimed to do: dark comedy. Nonetheless, people are saying that it is a pretty good movie with these neg. reviews in mind, which shows how well of a director Nelson is and that the movie is pretty good. Also, the music was so good (background and everything), which was expected from Anirudh. *CONCLUSION/SUMMARY* All i'm saying is, do not just look at these negative reviews and decide not to go. Everyone has a different sense of humor so the things that weren't funny to them, may be funny to you (personally, I found it very funny). If you go and watch the movie for what it is meant to be, you may find it very enjoyable. If not, watch it for Vijay, he tried something new and he'll either continue with this style or not depending on people's reviews. If you watch and enjoy how he acted/looked you can leave a review and he might try this look more. Vijay did amazing in his acting with the style and "swagger" (it definitely shows) and Nelson did an amazing job portraying that. In the first showing of this movie, people probably didn’t understand the style of the movie and with it being overhyped, the movie got a bad rep. So watch it because these reviews are making it seem much worse than it is in reality.
