This was a terrible film. The CGI was good, though otherwise it was a misogynistic horror. They universe it was set in gave so much potential to make a really interesting society of peoples on Pandora, but instead the writers romanticized bad, dictatorial parenting and misogyny. Beyond that the story beats are completely off and the only reason anyone can understand what's supposed to going on half the time is because the film is having it's characters play out scenarios which we've seen on film thousands of times before in order for us to infer what the writers intend for us to pick up on. It's utterly ridiculous. With all the money spent on CGI it's a wonder they wouldn't save some of their budget for decent writers.
I'm honestly extremely disappointed. If I wanted to hear men talk about how people are 'tough leaders' and force their children to call them 'sir' while being a militaristic and dictatorial parent with no ounce of compassion I would have spent the day with my father.
Furthermore, the writers found it impossible to ever let a woman overshadow a man, even in situations where it would have made the writing better (i.e introducing a whole new 'macho-man' character to teach out male protagonist how to do something rather than have an experienced woman who's already been introduced into the plot of whom knows more than him teach him)
This film perpetuates sexism and I'm disgusted it was permitted to be shown in theaters in 2022. (I walked out half way through... but by the time I left there was no way it could have redeemed itself + I read the plot synopsis and, surprise surprise, a man is the hero and saves everyone because he's a man and super cool and great and a hero. What a revolutionary idea to write such a plot)
