My single issue with the game is that it does not feel like a classic LoZ game. That said, it takes everything that was great in BoTW and doubles it. Twice the map size, twice the story, and twice the intensity. ****************Now, just a heads up, the next thing I say if going to be non-story related spoilers. They made a bunch of items previously requiring an amiibo obtainable through organic gameplay.***********
Now I think this game is fantastic for what it is. A better and bigger BoTW. That said, it’s nothing like classic Zelda games of old. If you’re looking for expansive dungeons that take hours to complete, you won’t find it here. In its place, much like BoTW, the major puzzles in the game come in smaller bursts from things you will encounter in the world itself.
Without getting into any spoilers, the dungeons are a great improvement. They aren’t as intricate as some of the older ones, and they don’t provide that ‘Aha!’ Moment the same way, but they are a little bit bigger, and the puzzle is much more enjoyable. Shrines do make a return, much of them being the same easy tasks involving a small number of core abilities, but a lot of them feel more rewarding.
There is more boss variety both in the open world and in the dungeons. Additionally, the core bosses once again feel a bit like puzzles instead of purely combat-based encounters.
Overall, BoTW was my #5 favorite Zelda games, but now it’s at #6 because I like this one better. Not a classic Zelda, but definitely a good one.
