My son and daughter went to an elementary school where majority of the population consisted of African-American kids. My kids are introverts but very friendly and compassionate. My little boy (7 at the time) was bullied, beaten often and left standing there by the basketball team (he loved basketball) because "he isn't one of us". My daughter was bullied by the African-American girls in her class to the point of tears. I addressed this with the school administration but they told my kids to find something else to do during recess. For the first time in their short lives, my children suffered at the hands of racism and asked me why the black kids who don't even know them, are so mean to them. This isn't uncommon - other non-black parents have shared similar experiences that their children had. In our country, the evil of racism exists on both sides, yet Hollywood portrays it as only being against black people. This movie gave me so much joy and hope to watch. I will be re-watching it with my entire family. We had started to lose faith in Netflix because so much is lopsided in media today in the name of "woke-ness". But this movie (Stepsisters) is the reason that I will continue my Netflix subscription. I am proud of you, Netflix and of the makers of this movie, for drawing attention to the fact that racism exists on both sides and is always wrong, regardless of skin color/race. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
