Such hamhanded direction from Mr. MacDonald and the chemistry between all these 'A list' actors was nonexistant. I didn't care about any of them. It was as if their scenes were all shot separately and then edited together. No one fed off of anyone else. It was weird. And the dialogue! Oy vey! Cliche, stereotypical. Mirren gets some foul British slang to make her sound like the crusty, tough editor but her heart's not in it. Crowe's greasy long hair. Mashed potatoes and Campbell's chili for dinner? Really? And Rachel McAdams as a cub reporter? Please! She underacted throughout and passively goes along for the ride. Even the foiled assasination at the end was pathetic and unbelievable. This movie could have been so much more with a better script, better direction and better editing. It never comes together because it adds too many details to tell the story and all the loose ends are left...loose. Incredibly unsatisfying ending and one of Affleck's worst performances. It reminds me why I don't think much of his talent. Nice to look at, though. I stuck with it hoping it would get better, but it didn't. Remind me again, why did Jason Bateman talk to Crowe? Yeah, I didn't get that either. And the two researchers...? don't get me started! 🙄
