I’m so in love with this show. It’s flawed, but so entertaining.
I hope they bring Elsa back and she is somehow cured. Perhaps, Sam will hear of her injuries and bring a Native American cure. I can’t imagine the show without her.
I see criticism that she has become self-centered. She’s beautiful and a teenager during a time period filled with constraints, from which she is trying to break free. Yet, she risked her life diverting the Indians away from the wagon train as best she could. That’s the dichotomy of adolescence.
I do agree that the language issues are confusing. I’m not sure that she spoke fluent Comanche, but the conversation she is having is not an in-depth one. She could know enough superficial Comanche.
The Indians speaking English is more jarring to me. However, the leaders of tribes were forced by circumstances to speak both French and English to trade and to negotiate. But, I agree that far too many of them in this show are too fluent. A flaw we have to live with in order to understand their point of view. Subtitles would be ok by me.
These were rough times and the motivation to learn and adapt were greater then. I think immigrants learned quickly as did others in order to ensure survival. I think this is what this series is all about.
I accept this series for the engrossing entertainment it provides. Although, I love history, it was my major, I don’t mind an adaptation of the facts for entertainment value, only.
