It could have been very good. Season 1 was just OK but season 2 was ridiculous. It had more plot holes than a Swiss cheese. In real life Pickett would not have survived past episode 2.

I was a student in Birmingham from 1976. At that time the IRA bombing campaign was in full swing. ( any unattended bag could be a bomb)But we were very much aware of the murders of women in Leeds and Bradford. The Long Shadow drama reflects well the attitude to women at that time and the incompetence of the police. (Not much changed there!) . I can recall managers and lecturers with exactly the attitudes of the lead detectives . And the constant smoking. It was cringing realistic.
