It doesn’t even deserve one star. Extremely disappointed and disgusted that this film although misleading with its title isn’t even about Saint Padre Pio. Such a shame. The real story of Pio is truly one everyone should learn about despite your religious beliefs; his real physical battles with the devil, the stigmata, his devotion to his faith and to the people his town/community. A true testament of mercy, forgiveness, temptation, miracles and his vocation. The director, Abel Ferrara, and all those involved had the opportunity to tell a real story about a 21st century saint. You made the choice to show; sex, harassment, weak story telling, bad character building, the story line your chose actually sucked as well, you also chose to push the agenda of Marxism. But yet you didn’t find the time to honor the title of your film. I wasted 2 hours of my life watching this. The ONLY good that came from this film is the journey of Shia Labeouf’s conversion to Catholicism (and his small scenes were profoundly felt through the screen, bravo Shia).
Abel Ferrara, you had a chance to make a beautiful masterpiece and you blew it.
Maybe someone else will take on such a true story and honor it in a film. Making it a respectable work of honor & love.
