In defense of the film, Darin said, “What experiences made the man Captain Moroni? That’s the story I want to make a movie about.”
The problem is, we have no idea.
So you’re making a fictional story about actual historical figures… well one actual figure.
Imagine if someone made a movie about the life of Jesus from the time he was about 18 to 30 years old.
After the nativity and before his ministry, death, and resurrection. And if it was just all speculation with no actual events as recorded in the Bible.
Nobody would want to see that.
There’s a difference between taking creative liberty to make connections or intensify, but it’s another to just completely make up a fictional story about actual historical figures without even including any events from their lives.
Which btw, maybe I could understand a little if it was a very well known story and one was trying to shed light on another aspect of it, but The Book of Mormon is definitely not a well known story.
Even many members are quite unfamiliar with many of the events that it recounts.
What a waste of time and money.
