I liked it a lot. I like a lot more character dialogue and development which this first installment was weak on or I’d probably give it another star. I think this will be really tough to accurately score until you see the other 3 installments though. It jumps around a lot between a few different story lines which makes it tough to get invested with any specific story at first but by the end I was used to that. Much like lord of the rings it just kind of ends out of no where and leaves you hanging but that’s by design since there are 3 more movies in the series. It had a real John Ford feel to some of the storylines and others felt more revisionist western. To me it felt like it was an ode to western films as a whole and the main character wasn’t actually a character it was the myth of the American West and the Hollywood western. If you want transforming robots and mutant super heroes flying around punching monsters you will probably hate it. It’s not a summer blockbuster.

Pretty boring. The chronological jumping around makes it a pain to keep track of what's going on, and the fact it's so heavy handed with it's agenda makes you kind of lose interest cause it doesn't have a lot to say about anything else. Comparing this to The Wire is like if you were comparing Jaws to Jaws 4 and saying wow Jaws 4 was almost as good as the original. Bernthal is probably the main reason I'm still even watching.
