A fascinating exploration of conversation and relating on how schools and educators, parents and others abuse positions of power because of their own fears and insecurities. Dickens' use of narrative tone is brutal, slicing through unconscious bias and elevating the reading. You feel as though he is on your side in the face of blood-less encounters. The movement created by the connectivity between dialogue and description stands out for me, as do the little nuggets of Metaphor which root the langauge and offer perspective in a creative way. The writing really is an excellent example of dialogue, a generous endeavour.
