I want to pretence this by saying, I've read some negative reviews and it is clear who hasn't read the book.
The two characters of Frances and Bobbi were played exactly as they were written. Not every protagonist has to be this hero type or this fictitious persona of an 'interesting' person. The lack of dialogue and the enigmatic nature of Frances were directly portrayed in the book. It is to make you feel the characters' emotions, rather than to hear them second-hand out of their mouth.
Overall, if you've watched it without reading the book, I feel like your opinion is invalid. You can't go into a Sally Rooney TV adaptation expecting to truly understand the emotions between the lines without having actually read the lines.
This show has a special place in my heart. It captures the simplistic essence of life and how love and family can change how you love someone. It captures love without boundaries in your 20s perfectly, and the acting done by everyone was real.
To everyone else; read the book.
