Terrible. This doesn’t even deserve a star but can’t post without some kinda rating. I was excited to watch our people on the big screen. Something different.
Had nothing to do with soccer. I was expecting more in the sense of team building, idk something inspiring. All I saw was a coach with a short fuse that continuously walked out on a team, and a trans that was viewed as a “flower” in the Samoan community. I respect faafafines. But I would have loved to see more team dialogues and conversations between the other team members.
Islanders are naturally funny people - they have a really good sense of humour - and aside from the jokes, they’re quite intelligent and not as clueless/clumsy as shown in the movie. Storyline alone was great, but it could’ve definitely been portrayed in a better light. Actors were trying way too hard to sound like fobs? Which made it so much worse.
Taikas films lately have been the same …. Too many jokes and they’re not even funny. He’s pretty cocky I cringe watching his interviews …. Says alot about him. But that’s just my opinion he’s worked hard to get to where he is - but I hope if he’s ever given the chance to do another movie that represents our people … that he’d do it justice. We’re more than jokesters ….
Also why was he pronouncing Iesu (yeh-soo) as Lesu (leh-soo) that ain’t Samoan and sure ain’t Jesus?
Anyways - would not recommend watching this. Did not do justice for our Polynesian people.
