Having read other comments I've never seen the original and I thought Kate Winslet was excellent. She was a self made woman and really grasped the feeling of the time, America coming back after the Depression and Prohibition. She did so much for Veda but nothing was good enough and Veda was a spoilt brat through to the end. Highly recommended.
