I really love the original 80’s He-Man. I grew up watching it with my dad and it’s something we bond over. When I heard the rumors of this show being all about Teela I was hoping it wasn’t true. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Teela in the original show, but if I’m going to be watching He-Man, I would expect him to be the main character.
And then I watched this show and it got even worse than it just being about Teela rather than the shows namesake. They made Teela such an unlikable character. She is supposed to be a strong woman, and yet she is childish and makes everything about her and her feelings. Prince Adam/He-Man dies in the first episode and she doesn’t give a damn, instead whining about how everyone lied to her about Adam’s true identity. I instantly hated her character.
Not only did they kill off He-Man in the first episode, they went as far as to kill off both of the main male characters in the show. He-Man AND Skeletor. Skeletor is my favorite character in all of this franchise, so to say I was disappointed is an understatement. I loved what they did with his powers in the first episode, and there was so much potential that was completely wasted because they had to kill off the male characters in the name of modern politics.
I’m going to rewatch the original series instead of this.
