Not sure what they were going for, but it did not "work". Anne was a very different character on a really basic level. Frederick was barely there and there was simply no believable chemistry there to make you feel it could be a love story. The color conscious casting was nicely done and had some potential, but the script was abysmally bad. The verbal moderisms did not "work" at all and were cringe-worthy expressions. "Badly done, Netflix. Badly done".
