Much more accurate to the source material
Don't get me wrong, I'll always love Kubrick's 80s adaption of The Shining, but the way it deviated so much from the book never sat right with me. The 90s, smallscreen adaption of The Shining is not only much closer to what Stephen King enviosned, but is filmed on the same hotel where he got the idea for the book. In addition to featuring a human Tony, hedge animals, and so on, the Shining also does Jack justice.
You can tell he has his inner demons, but is still a loving man to his family whose unfortunately corrupted by the Overlook Hotel. Wendy is much better too and stands on her own. We also get much established background information and Dick Hallorance survives like in the book. And the ending brings much closer unlike the 80s Shining where the ending is left towards viewer interpretation.
