I absolutely love Dolly Parton but I do not get this album at all. If Dolly is trying to be groundbreaking by being a country artist performing rock and roll, well she's about 40 years too late. If you listen to modern country top hit radio, every song sounds like this album. Country has just become Rock & Pop with a little twang. If you want to break crossover ground, cover a Nine Inch Nails song like Johnny Cash did but this album just shoots for straight down the middle.
This album also removes what really makes Dolly great, which is her song writing. She is just covering classic rock & pop tunes with little interpretation or refreshed imagination. Her writing abilities are NOT on display on this album.
I suppose if you just want to hear a run of the mill cover album then OK. Her voice still sound good but this just feels like an old star wanting to connect with the young folk without realizing the fans of these songs are roughly the same age as her.
In the end, this album will appeal to people who already love these songs & already love Dolly but this album will probably age about as well as "We Are The World" has.
