I never leave reviews, but the last couple episodes of this show made me so genuinely annoyed and disappointed with how poorly they were written that I had to express it somewhere. Honestly, what a huge let down for what could have been an amazing drama.
Do yourself a favor and don't watch this unless you want to be dragged along for disappointment. It felt like the first several episodes were written by completely different writers because they were actually strong and beautifully-written, whereas the last couple of episodes were so illogical, forced, and cringey it gave me whiplash. The writers completely shrug off the captivating, major storyline of the first several episodes (the letters) that drew us all in initially. That's why I'm so disappointed - because this show really had so much potential.
While there were a ton of issues with the show, some of the biggest issues revolve around the love-triangle/main leads. The two leads who end up together had absolutely zero chemistry (in my opinion) and next to zero character or relationship development overall. Their relationship felt patched together and hard to watch. This is the first k-drama I've watched where I found the main lead utterly unlikeable, to the point where I found myself cringing and skipping his scenes. There were so many red flags (anger issues, stalking, possessiveness, etc.) with his otherwise dull, uncharismatic character, and we were supposed to root for him because he's cute and makes dorky puppy dog faces? There was also a completely random and awful suicide/revenge subplot that was forgotten as quickly as it appeared?
Seriously, the only good parts of this show are some of the cool yet unrealistic scenes about startup culture/running a business and whenever they granted the 2nd lead screen time. And worst of all, they did the fan-favorite 2nd lead, Kim Seon-ho, DIRTY. The writers bonded us with him from the beginning only to cruelly neglect him and have him be mistreated by pretty much every character until the very end. It was very frustrating to witness. He did an excellent job throughout, though, and really carried the show.
It's honestly just frustrating to have the writers treat their audience as if they're stupid. They did a huge disservice to the emotional connection they were building with us in the first episodes. In the end, they thought they could tell us what to think through the actors' poorly-written words without properly developing it at all and then shove it down our throats with happy, sentimental music and we'd just cheer along. Or perhaps they're just really lazy - the amount of plot holes the show ends up with is pretty inexcusable.
I'm frustrated just thinking about it haha. So yeah, this one gets a yikes from me.
