I'm not one to re-read a book. Never have been, if I love it, finish it, it goes back to the shelf, but I would look at it and flip through the pages time-to-time. I am shocked to see everyone saying the characters are lesbian, "Ada's guardian is a Lesbian which seemed culturally out of place for the time period" "homosexual foster mother took the children away from their biological mother" No, no, no!!! Smith did not take anyone away, everything was consented, and Ada was the one who took Jamie and ran away, how could you say such things?? It may seem like they're lesbian but they are not, you could say allegedly, but to say it with entitlement like "I am right" is jaw-dropping. It's a wonderful book, when it came out I begged my mom to get it and she read it to me before bed, and just earlier this year I reread it and reread it, over, and over, and over, this is my childhood book and this is my 8th time rereading! The shock still hits me and I will never get over how badass some of the characters were. It is my favorite childhood book and it angers me, and saddens me to see everyone bashing it.
