Irrfan Khan, in what turned to be his last movie role, is the sole thread holding together Angrezi Medium, an attempted comedy drama that starts our with some great laughs and then moves into contrived plots, situations and characters, so that the makers put their point across.
Be respectful and kind to your parents, the only people who love and support you all your lifetime, is the film's sincere message. Though Angrezi Medium is never boring, and the makers have their heart at the right place, the emotional telling takes a toll on logic, at the cost of jumping to a peaceful solution in the end. The script lets the film down by many notches.
Do watch it for Irrfan's superb take as a small town sweet seller. You will realize how big a loss it is to lose an actor so talented.
Radhika Madan is good as Irrfan's cute, desperately seeking freedom daughter, while Deepak Dobriyal, Kiku Sharda, Ranvir Shorey, Dimple Kapadia, Pankaj Tripathi and Kareena Kapoor Khan are excellent in their supporting roles.
Angrezi Medium is not a great movie, Irrfan has done better, but had enough to keep me occupied till the end.
