While I don’t think this show is a perfect 10/10, it DEFINITELY does not deserve a 1.3 average rating. Most of the 1 star hate ratings that I’ve read are just people pointing out the obvious: Velma is now Indian and lesbian, Shaggy is now black, Daphne is now Asian and has two moms, etc. Listen, the whole point of the show was to be a new, funny, and woke take on the Scooby-Doo universe, starring Velma as the main lead. I think a lot of people missed the point of the show, it wasn’t to trash on Scooby-Doo or push the “woke ways” onto people, it was created purely for comedic purposes. Some of you need to take several seats and take a long, deep breath. It’s not that serious, no one is trying to indoctrinate your child by changing the race or sexuality of a character. Additionally, I noticed that many people were commenting on the drugs and nudity that were used in the series. The problem that I noticed here was that 90% of the people saying these things aren’t in high school anymore. This is a very blunt, yet honest take on being a teen in today’s society. Another great depiction of this is demonstrated in HBO’s “Euphoria”. If shows like this are not something that you are interested in or not comfortable with your child watching, IT’S RATED R (TV-MA)! Literally don’t watch something of this nature if you are not old enough or mature enough to do so. Again, this show was not another rendition of Scooby-Doo, THE TITLE IS “VELMA,” Scooby doesn’t even make an appearance in the entirety of the show. It is entirely about Velma and expanding on her story separately from her other cast members. This show did not deserve half of the hate it received, but I digress. The last thing that I’ll touch on here is that if you don’t like the fact that there are race changes, lgbtqia+ relationships/characters, drugs, or nudity IN A SHOW THAT’S RATED R, you probably should not be watching television in today’s society. It’s just staying relevant and up to date with the world’s views. The reality is, having an entirely white, straight, cisgender, innocent cast of teens is simply unrealistic today. If you don’t agree with it, don’t watch the show. (Again, it’s rated R/TV-MA, it’s not for kids or immature audiences 🙄).
