Black people will appreciate it. White people will hate it because it's not really about them. See it for yourself. Don't listen to anyone else. I totally get the idea and the message but it was a bit slow yet not boring. Had a tremendously talented cast that was not used to it's full potential. The great acting helped out a lot. All said, I did like the movie but not going down as one of the greats. I went to a late show and only me and a few white people were in the theater (I'm black by the way). Seriously!!! All of the white people left the movie before it was over!!!. That lets me know the movie did it's job. I am in Tennessee.. so couldn't expect anything else.
Bottom Line: I would guess most of the negative reviews calling this film "racist" come from white people who were going to a movie expecting it to be a "fun comedy" all about them and entertaining them. It's not. It's a movie telling BLACK people about how BLACK people tend to treat white people to make them feel comfortable.. It's stating the way most black folks in America have to act around white people JUST to exist, to fit in ,not get arrested, fired or..killed due to white insecurity. That white insecurity is a real thing that was fictionalized with "magic" to lessen the blow to white egos. The truth of the story is very real and they won't like it. White people may not like the truth and may want to skip this one. Oh.. by the way. I'm not a racist... See the movie and you'll get that.
