I (51) am a lifelong Miyazaki fan. Spirited Away, My Neighbour Tortoro, Ponyo, Laputa, Howl, and with me, my wife, Yuko, and kids, 14 and 12. From beginning to end, we found this offering tragic, grotesque and confusing, with none of the fun, wonder and magic of the classics. Spirited Away is at points, grotesque and weird, but with it, fun, magical and exciting. This offering was as aforementioned - sad, weird, grotesque, disjointed and confused. Unlike the Miyazaki-Ghibli classics, we won't return to this one countless times for family viewing on rainy days. One to be archived and forgotten. 😟
