Having just watched the Rise of Skywalker, I have to reaffirm what I've said since this film's release. It's garbage. The film lacks everything that makes for a good star wars film, which is interesting and compelling characters. All of the characters are turned into flat representations of one trait. You have Brash, the pilot who wants to fight the empire, but for some reason is punished for it. Overly-self-assured, the commander who ignores her best officers and does what she wants, Coward, a man who went through a hero's journey in the last film, only to just quit in the first 15 minutes of this one, Interference, the woman who interferes with every plan, throwing it off. Want to be a coward? Nope, I won't let you, want to be a hero? Nope. Can't do that either, also, let's shoehorn in a romance with two characters who really don't display any chemistry. There is Cranky, the old Jedi Master who doesn't care at all about Star Wars and actively mocks it the entire time.
All throughout the film there are also major plot points focused on things that have either never come up in any of the 7 films, (or much of the old Expanded Universe). These were inserted because they were supposed to look cool, not because they were necessary or made sense. The entire film is more or less unnecessary, watch it once maybe, but only to learn the two (literally) plot points you need for "The Rise of Skywalker"
