this movie is only as good as it's screenplay.
~ Good (6/10):
The execution was decent. Great direction. Great Camera work. A Woman repairer who knows soldering and a Trans-kid who works the turn table by hand, that's a first. No wonder RT critics give it a Fresh Rating. Anyways, Got all the flavours of a propah Horror movie with the Final Girls and all.
~ Meh (4/10):
It just felt more like a showcase; cool Cine shots and gore. Like it's just there...Like you'd only go like "oh, look at all that goo and blood, cool beans!" but that's just it.
And That's all because it's written that way. The same formula of the original evil dead (1981) & (2013), copy-pasted, just tweaked a little.
They try to emulate Sam Raimi's style with little dark-humour here and there but it falls short because IT'S NOT RATED R!!! I mean, it is rated R but why does it feel like pg-13 the whole time??
NO INGENUITY in this particular one given that the ED franchise has existed for over 44years. With all the movies, tv Episodes, games and comics they've made so far, this is the best the filmmakers can do? comeon!
ED franchise was dead when Bruce Campbell retired from it. Now they're just trying to make money off of the leftovers. I can't even guess what their plan is with this franchise in the future.
STORY IS KING. We need ingenuity back in horror.
