I am fascinated by this. It seemed a bit like a throwback to the Philadelphia/Longtime Companion era of AIDS storylines. I had to recheck that it was made much more recently--20-23 apparently. Although AIDS is no longer a death sentence and gay romances no longer have to end on a depressing down-note, I was still drawn into it and found it worth my time and money. Yes, there is explicit sex and at least one instance of male frontal nudity, so it's not for "general audiences" that include those put off by such things. But for me, anyway, the sex seemed surprising but not offensive and it was definitely appropriate to the storyline.
One more thing, though: I did find the frequent bouncing around from one period in time to another a little confusing. There are two parallel storylines happening--back when the characters meet and fall in love (around 1952) and much later in their lives (mid 1980s)--but I thought both were proceeding in linear fashion through time until, all of a sudden, one of them bounces back again to, I think, 1957 (that's when Joe McCarthy died and the scene involves his funeral). I had to Google that date (McCarthy's death) to figure out where I was relative to what had been happening to the characters to that point.
