I have spent the past 5 minutes reading through the 1 star reviews on this theme and judging by names and profile pictures the common theme appears to be that every one was written by a man who clearly have zero emotional depth and understanding of this film and the society we live in.
Are they truly shocked to find that a movie about one of the largest female role models is not about how great a straight white man is? To say that it mislead children is entirely untrue, I can firmly say if I was a child I would not have enjoyed it and appreciated the messages like I do watching it now but that doesn’t mean it isn’t important they are heard. I went to see this movie with a group of my friends, all women, who all cried. Are you really going to so boldly cast aside a movie that touched women everywhere, if so many ages, because you as a man cannot understand the perspective of women for one second?
I would say this movie was a masterpiece, it so greatly spoke on sexism, the patriarchy, growing up a woman and girlhood. Barbieland is a girls childhood, we have the naivety and innocence barbie holds before she leaves, her entering the real world is much akin to us aging, realizing the world is not as fun as we think, especially for women. It was so greatly designed that it had me in tears multiple times, the casting was on point, the costuming was beautiful and so greatly detailed and the overall message was so important while still being an amazingly camp and fun movie.
Anyone who does not appreciate or understand the movie I watched today has no right or reason to comment on it, it was beautifulz
