House porn! A friend described the show as such and I fully agree. However, there are a number of issues that spoil the programme for me. There is for instance no mention of lack of utilities when couples seek their remote escapes. Oil heating and septic tanks that require emptying are two obvious hazards, but there are others that, although small, can soon become major headaches and put enormous strains on relationships. Another factor often overlooked is whether you are prepared to assimilate into local life. A few miles from me is a major Motorsport circuit. Unfortunately incomers have moved in to new homes and complained of the noise, leading to restricted practice and race days. Or others who live near farms and realise the smells carried on prevailing winds, are not necessarily of flowers and fresh cut grass...
The programme itself falls short by showing couples properties they haven't specified. There is also too much "filler", looking at country pursuits rather than more in-depth detail. No mention for instance, of the perils of Winter, lack of public transport or basic amenities.
