Absolutely brilliant. Truly a gem on my bookshelf. The writing was masterful, and the romance itself was close to something magical. Atmosphere, character, and absolutely gorgeous storytelling wrapped up in one, dismal, war-torn package--it's fantastic. I normally despise romance, but this book is something else. It transcends the genre of simply romance. It's human emotion truthfully told in a collection of some of the most delightfully strung words I have ever had the benefit to read. Overall, beautifully, beautifully done. Did not expect to enjoy this, but I'm so glad my vain eyes sought it out for its cover.

For reference, I'm 14. I didn't expect to enjoy this one since I have a bad rep with classics, but I was pleasantly surprised by the humor and intriguing characters presented nearly immediately. Despite seeming silly and childish, the technique of storytelling and the handprint of a brilliant, creative, and wonderfully witty man is right under the skin of the words. It may get bizarre at points, but it's the magic of the worldbuilding. My only advice while reading this would be to appreciate all aspects, big and small. Definitely recommend.
