This movie shone a much needed light on mental illness. The actors were all amazing. The scenes that described self-injury and the strangeness that Nicholas was feeling, were really educational. I was frustrated with how long it took for Nicholas to get professional help, a diagnosis and medication. But it wasn't from lack of love-rather, his parents loved him but seemed to be naively hoping it was just normal teenage angst. Nicholas described as best he could, the pain of depression and how he didn't feel he fit into the world. And his parents showed how torn they were between wanting to help their son but then giving into his pleas to stop his treatment for his depression. Every parent, no- every person should watch this movie in case they know someone that is struggling. Because, as the psychiatrist said about serious mental illness- love isn't enough.
