I just finished reading Firestarter and went on to the film literally straight after. (Put my book down, got my snacks out, pressed play.)The first part seemed ok, not as exciting as the setting up in the book but hey ho. Andy’s captured and we get Charlie breaking in to the Shop. I get my blanket over me, open up my popcorn and the credits roll. WHAT? HUH? WHERE’D THE FILM GO? DID I FASTFORWARD IT SOMEHOW?!! That’s literally just it. She burns some people up, goes to the beach, and gets willingly (WHYWHYWHY??!!) carried off by the guy that’s just killed her mother and tried to off her and her dad.
Pardon the pun but I am fuming. So disappointed. Also kind of just… confused. I feel like I must have accidentally wound it on an hour because 80% of the story is just NOT THERE. Nothing’s explained. Nothing.
I’m disappointed, I’m angry… but mostly kind of… bemused. I really cannot comprehend what just happened. It was just all scene setting and build up then just when you think the story is about to start it literally ends. The little girl is good though. I also have to say, regarding our beloved Zac Efron… If the film had been anything like the book he would have portrayed the actual fleshed out character really well. He did well within the considerable limits here but honestly… what a waste.
I never saw the Drew Barrymore one and usually I’d give it a go but I really don’t want to waste any more of my time. I’d rather watch my senile cat stare at the wall than get let down like this again.
If it were possible I’d give this a -1 star rating but I’ll have to stick with the lowest of 1 just so I can post this pointless rant.
I want my £3.99 or whatever it was to rent it on Amazon Prime Video back.
