Bought this book at original issue as I had been working as a computer engineer with Ferranti Computer Systems since 1975. Loved the book back then and still cherish it. It provides a superb insight to the development of computer systems from their real world application requirements. Today, basic functionality of processing binary data is lost to the vast majority of users who take for granted that a computer can fulfil many functions - the general-purpose machine.
