As a longtime FNAF fan, this movie is insanely underwhelming. Everything about it is mid. I'm disappointed to say the least, if you're thinking about watching it, think twice and watch something else.
The movie itself is not scary, I'd consider it more as a thriller rather than a horror film. The whole point of FNAF is to survive 5 nights at an old pizzeria with haunted animatronics. Is that what we got? Nope. Instead we got a million different plot lines that make no sense. It's like they crammed the lore of the games, books and theory's into an hour film. Pick a plot and stick to it. What even is the film? Is it about killer animatronics haunted by dead kids? About a man losing custody of his sister? Childhood trauma? A killer dad? What's the plot blumhouse?
SPOILERS
There was no jumpscares nor was there gore. If you count Balloon Boy's little jump scars then I guess We got slivers of blood in scenes where there should have been rivers. Max's death wasn't even shown, it was more implied. We saw the shadows yes but I would've loved to see her get obliterated by Freddy. The rest of the robbers deaths are underwhelming, the animatronics are supposed to be violent, aggressive, filled with anger but instead they're more passively aggressive than anything. Aren't these animatronics supposed to be threatening? Don't even get me STARTED on the spring lock scene. UNDERWHELMING AND DISAPPOINTING.
The actors had so much potential. Lilliard should've had more screen time, more character development. He's a terrific actor and brings so much life into every role he plays. I think if the film wasn't so focused on Mike and his traumatic past then we would've had a ton more time for Afton. We would've gotten a better film, it would've been more shocking to reveal that he is Afton. Personally I guessed it from the start but that's coming from someone who's been a fan of the franchise since like 2014.
I had very high hopes for this movie, I sort of knew that It would be mediocre based on the rating the movie got however I was not expecting to sit there for nearly 2 hours and get absolutely nothing out of it. No gore, no jumpscares, no horror, what even is this movie? Because if you think it's FNAF you are more than wrong. It's padded out so much with Mike's trauma that it gives the rest of the film less time to cook and give us something somewhat decent.
I have no hate towards Scott or any of the actors for that matter but I hope that in the next 2 movies that they at least do something a bit better. This did not do the franchise any justice.
MatPat carried that film.
