Coda is film of two parts. The first part, the 'American' film, where the story is set in new york, feel awkward and rely too much on referencing and on rehashing the original movies. It doesn't work that well. When the narrative and shooting moves to Italy, a different movie emerges. And this is where the recut has its strongest impact. This part of the movie, the 'Italian' movie dominates, and for the better.
Sophie Coppolas performance is awkward, but, real, and her death has real emotional impact. Duvals characters absence is really only noticeable in the 'American' part.
A compliment to, rather than a sequel. It's a very good film.
