The Kerala story
Watched the movie today
Recommendation: Go and watch it
Here’s my take on it:
The movie touches a very sensitive topic of Islamic radicalization and conversion.
The movie is purportedly based on the real life stories of 3 women. It narrates, through the plight of the protagonist, the tools adopted by the radicals to emotionally entrap and exploit the vulnerable. It also brings to fore the horrors faced by these women and does a good job of keeping sensationalization at bay.
What I think is perhaps missing in the film was the explanation of the socio-political nexus which enable such dastardly acts. Also, the name “The Kerala story” paints the whole state in bad light which I think is unacceptable.
The truth is never pure and rarely simple. However, overall, the Kerala story is a well crafted movie which does a very good job of sensitizing the people without going overboard.
