Thankfully Abrams eliminates or ignores as much of the fetid, steaming pus pile Johnson handed him, and he admirably does the best he can to finish out the Skywalker Saga on a satisfying note.

Rion Johnson did the seemingly impossible and managed to create a Star Wars film even worse than any of the prequels. He micturates all over the established lore, treats well-defined characters with complete contempt, seems to not understand basic physics, and in general gives a giant middle finger to essentially the entire story arc to this point. The only high point of this film is the gorgeous cinematography and William’s typically amazing score.
